Adrian Belew, one of the most underrated guitarists of the present, was a member of many famous rock bands in the past. Among the musicians he worked with are King Crimson, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads, and many others. His guitar solo performed on Porcupine Tree's "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" is undoubtedly the best part of their recent "Deadwing" album. So even before I got this album, I knew I'll certainly like it. I was right, "Side One" is a really good album. Adrian is a musician with his personal, distinctive style of playing guitar, and I really like that leisurely, low-pitched and creaking sound, which Adrian takes out of his instrument. His music is not allied to the one of such guitar virtuoso as Satriani or Vai (whom I don't actually like much), but anyway Belew is a true master of guitar who, moreover, has discovered his own style. |
