Aftermath (1966)Rolling Stones, TheRock "Aftermath" is the first Stones' work that entirely consists of their original songs. All compositions are written by Jagger and Richards. This album initiated a brief departure of the Stones from blues-influenced pop songs and started their new period of better songwriting and arrangements. "Aftermath" teems with great songs: "Mother's Little Helper" (one of my favorite Stones songs), "Stupid Girl", "Lady Jane", "Under My Thumb", and others. I'm slightly disappointed with "Goin' Home" - it could have been a pretty decent three-minute song, but the Stones decided to stretch it to over eleven. Overall, Jagger's and Richards' songwriting shines. |
