A Fool No More (2002)Peter GreenRock Peter Green is a British super guitarist. In 1967 he had found his own band Fleetwood Mac and played there until spring of 1970. This album is an excellent collection of Peter Green's music, which comprised mainly of material from 1979 through 1983: "In the Skies" (1979), "Little Dreamer" (1980), "Blue Guitar" (1981), and others. When I listen to Peter Green's songs, it seems to me that the guitar is just a natural part of his body, and I hear how the melodies in his head flow through his magic guitar. My favorite tracks are "Seven Stars", "A Fool No More", "Walking the Road", and "Apostle". | |
Operation: Mindcrime (1988)QueensrycheProgressive Metal "Operation: Mindcrime" is classics of progressive metal, an outstanding album, which became a great break-through of Queensryche in 1988. However, regardless of the fact that the album is quite successful, it didn't touch me deeply. The first reason of that is the sound of the '80s, which I don't like too much. I'm not an Iron Maiden fan, but this album slightly reminds me of them. The second reason is that progressive metal has moved far ahead since 1988, so this album sounds not as rich today as it could at that time. However, if you are interested in prog metal, you absolutely should listen to this album. | |
The Human Equation (2004)AyreonProgressive Metal As I suspected two weeks ago, "The Human Equation" is really better than "Into the Electric Castle", but not as much better as I thought, however. I can't say it's an all-time masterpiece, but this is a solid, high-quality progressive metal opera made in best traditions of Arjen Anthony Lucassen. This album is also valuable for me because Dream Theater's vocalist James LaBrie appears on it as one of characters of the opera. In short, "The Human Equation" concentrates everything that I like in progressive metal: interesting conception, extraordinary arrangements, and excellent performance. | |
Analogue (2005)A-HaRock To say it shortly, "Analogue" is a good album. If I listen to this album carefully and deeply, I feel that it is full of some sadness or maybe tiredness. It seems that a-ha are at a stage of their maturing, and they reflect all their feelings and emotional experiences in music. I suppose that some time later we will listen to the new a-ha. | |
All the Right Reasons (2005)NickelbackRock "All the Right Reasons" is an astonishong metal ballad. This is a rich and emotional album that really pleases me, and I especially like the track named "Photograph". Guys from Nickelback are, as if, looking back into the past estimatingly, or, conversely, are looking into the future trying to find the answers. They passes all their emotions to us with each track of this album. | |
Life (1995)Cardigans, TheRock This is the second album by Swedish pop group The Cardigans. It is an excellent work in my opinion. Every song on this album is a lavish pop recording. Nina Perrson's super sweet vocal and Peter Svensson's intricate arrangements flow perfectly together. My favorite tracks are "Carnival", "Sick and Tired" and "Fine". Black Sabbath cover "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" performed by Nina's crystalline lullaby voice sounds wonderful. If you are thinking of collecting The Cardigans albums, I recommend you to start with this one. | |
